We have near-perfect recall when it comes to dangerous or threatening things that have happened to us, but it’s impossible for us to remember every detail. Over time, we forget things, regardless of the face we like to think we have a good memory. While our short-term memory might work pretty well soon after acquiring new information, if we don’t make the effort to learn things by heart, we won’t remember then for long at all, especially if they aren’t important for our survival.
