Words & Phrases

  • They are going to keep the rose garden but it will be reorganized.

    • “Keep” means they will not remove or close the rose garden.

    • “Reorganized” means they will change the layout or arrangement.

  • The rose garden was inside the amusement park at Mukogaoka.

  • My son went to Hyogo for work.

  • I finished my events, so I had a relaxing time.

    • The hot spring had outdoor pools.

    • I stayed in the pool for thirty minutes.

  • During winter bears sleep in warm dens. (‘Den’ is a hidden home of wild animals)

    • The fox retreated into its den at dawn.

  • Exhibitions are always (crowded / congested) with people.

  • Use a wine glass to drink it.

Appropriate Language

Movement words for horses

  • 1. Walk (verb) = The slowest movement. The horse moves one leg at a time, very calmly.

    • The horse is walking slowly across the field.

  • 2. Trot (verb) = A little faster than walking. The horse moves two legs together, up and down.

    • The rider made the horse trot around the arena.

  • 3. Canter (verb) = Faster than a trot but slower than a gallop. It looks smooth and steady.

    • The horse began to canter down the path.

  • 4. Gallop (verb) = The fastest speed. Horses run at full speed, all four legs come off the ground.

    • The horse galloped across the open field.
