Steep (adjective) = having a sharp slope or rise; can also mean excessive or extreme, especially in price or demand
The stairs at the castle were very steep.
The path up the mountain was steep and difficult to climb.
The hotel charges a steep fee for early check-in.
Were you a good son to your mother?
Did you treat your mother well while she was here?
“Filial piety” is a correct translation from Chinese or Japanese concepts, but it’s mostly used in academic or formal writing, not casual conversation.
The house next door is being pulled down. Demolition started earlier this morning.
Obligation (noun) = something that a person is bound or expected to do, especially because of duty, law, or moral reason
I feel a strong obligation to help my family.
Citizens have an obligation to follow the law.
He stayed late at work out of a sense of obligation.
I’m happy that my sweets made people happy.
I am very good at cooking, but not very good at baking.
I can make some cookies and cakes that are edible, but they don’t look very beautiful.
The new Prime Minister often smiles. (We don’t say ‘make smile’)
We can say ‘make someone smile’ to mean bring happiness to someone
Seeing my family makes me smile.
