Doctors
In everyday English we usually refer to the type of doctor rather than their medical specialty, especially in casual conversation
‘Type of doctor’ → ‘medical speciality’
Eye doctor → ophthalmologist
Skin doctor → dermatologist
Heart doctor → cardiologist
Brain/nervous system doctor → neurologist
Bone/joint doctor → orthopedist in North America
Kidney doctor → nephrologist
Stomach/intestine doctor → gastroenterologist
Lung doctor → pulmonologist
Child doctor → paediatrician
Pregnancy doctor → obstetrician / gynaecologist (OB/GYN)
Teeth doctor → dentist
Ear, nose, throat doctor → ENT specialist (otolaryngologist)
Mental health doctor → psychiatrist
Blood doctor → haematologist
