In this lesson, students will develop vocabulary and conversation skills by talking about their smartphones.

Words & Phrases

  • What was the (occasion / reason) for lunch today?

  • Haruhino is a quiet city and there are no people. It’s just a residential area.

    • There is a waterwheel not too far from Wakabadai.

  • On the Hill coffee roasts their own beans.

  • At the izakaya, I ordered seven types of sashimi.

  • Feedback (noun) = A loud, high, or annoying sound made when a microphone is too close to a speaker

    • The singer moved too close to the speakers, and the audience heard a loud burst of feedback.

    • Please turn down the volume because the microphone is starting to give feedback.

  • Wilt (verb) = To become weak and bend toward the ground (usually used for plants).

    • If you don't water the roses every day in the summer, they will quickly wilt.

    • The lettuce in the fridge started to wilt because it had been there for two weeks.

  • I had to buy a new adapter for my trip.

    • The adapter only changes the prong shape.

  • 1 “How do I turn up the volume” or “How do I turn the volume up

    • “Turn up” (phrasal verb) can be split, this is important when we use “pronouns” because only a pronoun can go in the middle. “turn it up”, NOT “turn up it”
