I entertained my husband and his friend today, so I am tired now. (= having guests and keeping them happy)
We hosted a dinner party. (= The act of having people in your home)
The last few days, I’ve been waking up around 5:30. I check the time, drink a little water, and roll back over until my alarm goes off.
Lately, I've been waking up at 5:30. I just grab some water and drift back to sleep until the alarm hits. (= more casual)
I've been waking up early lately, but I usually just have some water and snooze until my real wake-up time. (= more concise)
My brother is so stubborn that he refused to wear a coat even though it was snowing outside.
I tried to wash the grass stain off my white shirt, but it was very stubborn and stayed there. (= a mark on clothes that is very hard to clean)
My friend has had a stubborn cold and cough for a while, but won’t go see a doctor. (= An illness that lasts for a long time and won't go away)
I found several disgusting larvae in my potted hydrangeas.
When I repot my plants, I always use a pesticide to help kill anything that might be living in the soil. (= targets and kills pests, like bugs, weeds etc)
Insecticides target and kill insects like ants, beetles, gnats.
Fungicides target and kill fungi, like mold, mildew, root rot.
I am eagerly waiting for next season’s sumo tournament. I missed the last few bouts of this season.
