Words & Phrases

  • I sometimes join a walking group.

    • They cancelled yesterday’s event and held it today.

  • Errands (noun) = Short trips taken to complete small, necessary tasks, such as shopping, banking, or picking up dry cleaning.

    • I can't meet for lunch today because I have to run errands all afternoon.

    • I managed to get all my errands done in one trip to the city centre.

    • He’s just out running a few errands, he should be back in an hour.

  • Peer pressure (noun) = The feeling that you must do the same things as other people of your same age or social group in order to be liked or respected by them.

    • He only started wearing those expensive shoes because of peer pressure from the other kids at school.

    • It takes a lot of courage to say "no" when you're facing strong peer pressure.

    • Peer pressure can actually be a good thing if your friends are all motivated to get into a top university.

  • I want a fully informed opinion, so I often read and listen to the news.
