Words & Phrases

  • There isn’t any space to (display / put) my dolls for the Girls’ Festival.

    • This year I set up my dolls on a flat surface, it was so much easier than using the platforms.

    • A set of ornamental dolls representing the emperor, empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period.

    • Some of the dolls are over 80 years, so their accessories are getting old.

    • My set of dolls are made of porcelain.

  • I took some dolls and stuffed animals to a local temple. They (perform / hold) a ceremony before disposing of them.

  • Retaliate (verb) = To hurt someone or do something harmful to them because they have done something harmful to you first.

    • The government warned that it would retaliate by increasing taxes on imported goods if the trade deal was broken.

    • When his younger brother took his toys, he decided not to retaliate and instead asked his mother for help.
