Topic: Talking about Food and Drink

In this lesson, students will develop conversation skills by talking about shopping and eating habits. The lesson also focuses on countable and uncountable nouns.

Lesson Notes March 24, 2026 (Elementary)

Words & Phrases

  • The ballet class tickets have a time limit.

    • The tickets have an expiration date.

    • The tickets have to be used within three months.

  • I haven’t (talked to/ had any contact with) her since my eye surgery.

  • Have you been screened for breast cancer?

    • I have a mammogram once a year.

  • Weather event (noun) = often very strong and unusual weather, like flooding, rain, snow, winds, etc. (Usually used in headlines and articles)

    • There have been unusual weather event across parts of Hawaii.

    • We’ve been having strange weather this last week. (We use “weather” in conversations)

  • Bare bones (idiom/adjective) = The most basic or essential parts of something, without any added features, decoration, or luxury.

    • The startup began with a bare-bones staff of just three people working out of a garage.

    • After the budget cuts, the school was left with a bare-bones music programme.

  • I used to post pictures on Instagram.

    • I rarely write any comments, I just read to get some information.

  • Comfort Food (noun) = Food that provides a sense of well-being, emotional security, or nostalgia.

    • Her idea of comfort food is a simple grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup.

    • In the middle of winter, all I wanted was some comfort food like mashed potatoes.

  • There were leftovers I wanted to eat the next morning but my father ate it all!
