Perennial plant (noun) = A plant that lives for a long time, usually more than two years. It grows every spring, dies in the winter, and grows back again the next year from the same roots.
A rose bush is a perennial plant because it grows back every summer.
We like perennial plants because we don't have to buy new ones every year.
Annual plant (noun) [C] = A plant that lives for only one year (or one growing season). It grows from a seed, makes flowers, and then dies completely. You must plant new seeds every year.
Sunflowers are annual plants; they die when the weather gets cold.
My mother buys annual plants in the spring to make the garden colourful.
An early-blooming sakura tree was in full bloom over the weekend, and it was absolutely stunning.
Ornamental plant (noun) [C] = A plant that is grown for its beauty and colour, rather than for food or wood. People grow ornamental plants in gardens, parks, and houses to make them look nice.
