Words & Phrases
The medicine I take for my allergies makes me drowsy. (= feeling sleep, having difficulty staying awake)
Did you catch the game between America and Dominica? (= watch the broadcast)
The residents in the area complained about all the tourists, so the city cancelled the event.
Appropriate Language
Bout (noun) = A short period of intense activity, work, or illness. It is also used to describe a boxing or wrestling match.
He is recovering from a severe bout of the flu.
The country experienced a brief bout of inflation last year.
The heavyweight champions are preparing for their next bout in the ring.
Weeping tree (noun) = A type of tree with long, soft branches that hang down toward the ground rather than growing upwards or outwards.
The weeping willow is a common sight near rivers and lakes.
We planted a weeping cherry tree in our garden because it looks very graceful.
Even in winter, the shape of a weeping tree is very beautiful.
The Physical World
The view from my window is nice — I can see the sea!
"The countryside around the town is very wild.” ("Wild" is a great adjective to describe nature that is untouched or rugged.)
