Words & Phrases
My friend (performed at / played in / was in) the concert.
I attended the concert. (See Appropriate Language)
My friend rents a practice room. Sometimes I go to that room and practice with him.

The group had a performance last week, it was beautiful. (See Grammar)
My friend and her husband are staying in a company apartment in Tokyo while he is working here for two months.

A lot of places are lit up for Christmas. (“Lit up” is a common way to say that buildings, streets, shops, or towns have Christmas lights and decorations.)
My mother is going to have surgery, the same cataract surgery as you did.
What should I do and not do? (This is good for asking for advice)
Do not rub your eyes, and don’t wash your face. Getting water in your eyes can be harmful.
Grammar
Use perform to talk about the artistic action and the work itself. (For concerts and stage arts, it’s usual to use ‘perform’ as the verb rather than ‘do a performance’)
The band will perform live tonight at the theatre.
My group performed last night at the community hall.
Next summer, I will be performing at the summer festival.
Use have a performance to talk about the event happening, the timing, or the experience of it.
They’re having a performance at the community hall this weekend.
She was nervous because she had a performance after school.
The children had their first performance in front of an audience.
Appropriate Language
Attend (verb) = to be present at an event, place, or activity, or to go somewhere for a specific purpose.
I plan to attend the meeting this afternoon.
She attended a small concert with friends after work.
He could not attend the class because he was feeling unwell.
