Words & Phrases

  • Does anyone know a good (skin doctor / dermatologist)?

    • I had a simple procedure done, it only took, a few minutes. (We use “surgery” for cutting into the body)

  • We had a Buddhist (vegetarian / vegan) meal at the temple.

  • We rented a car for one day to travel around.

    • We drove along a mountain road. It was winding and scary.

  • “Gasshou” can be described as putting your palms together in front of your chest, usually in prayer or respect.

  • What can you see from the top of SkyTree?

    • The view from SkyTree is breathtaking.

    • I went to both observation decks.

  • Recently, listening to the news sours my dinner.

  • In my neighbourhood, I’ve started seeing homes with narrow windows.

Appropriate Language

  • Graze (verb) = 1. (Of animals) To eat grass or other vegetation growing in a field. 2. To eat small amounts of food frequently throughout the day instead of sitting down to full meals.

    • The cattle were left to graze peacefully in the high mountain pastures during the summer months.

    • Instead of having a heavy lunch, I prefer to graze on healthy snacks like nuts and fruit while I'm working at my desk.
