Words & Phrases

• My dentist gave me a check-up, and then the dental hygienist cleaned my teeth.

  • The dentist fixed my cavity. (We can easily use “fix” for teeth problems, rather than “treat”)

  • I had to go and get my broken tooth fixed at an emergency clinic over the weekend. (Using “get” is more casual for someone performing a service)

• My family is all really healthy, so I think it’s our genetics.

• When I go to the pharmacy to get a prescription filled, I usually get generic (medication / drugs).

• Most new clinics use self-check-in and payment kiosks.

  • Kiosk (Noun) = An electronic machine set up in a public area where you can buy things, get information, or complete tasks by yourself.

    • You can print your boarding pass quickly at the airport check-in kiosk.

    • The McDonald’s near the station uses a touchscreen kiosk for ordering.

• In a slump (Idiom / Prepositional phrase) = Being in a period of time when you are not performing well, making progress, or feeling successful at work, sports, or life.

  • The basketball player was in a slump and did not score any points for three games.

  • Don't worry if your business is in a slump. Things will get better soon.

  • I felt like my studying was in a slump, so I changed my daily schedule to regain energy.
