Words & Phrases

  • I see you’re still wearing shorts. It’s still too hot to take a walk, isn’t it?

  • Staircase (noun) = a set of stairs, usually with a railing, connecting different floors or levels in a building

    • The old house had a narrow wooden staircase.

    • She carefully carried the box up the staircase.

    • A beautiful spiral staircase led to the second floor of the mansion.

  • Scruffy (adjective) = untidy, messy, or shabby in appearance

    • He looked scruffy after a long day of gardening.

    • The scruffy dog wandered around the streets searching for food.

    • She didn’t mind wearing scruffy clothes at home.

  • I went to a reunion party the other day. It had been two years since the last one.

  • The other day my husband (forgot / lost) his cellphone on the plane.

  • My son installed Gemini on my phone for me. I use it to translate when I travel.

  • A lot of stores use self-check-out machine.

    • I don’t like to use cashiers these days.

  • During winter there are a lot of photographers along the river taking pictures of kingfishers.

  • These last three days the crows have been cawing loudly.
