Topic: Intro to Phrasal Verbs

In this lesson we will be introduced to some common phrasal verbs.

Section A: Look

• I’m going to the shops. Can you look after the children?

• I always look up new words in the online dictionary.

• Can you help me look for my keys? I’ve lost them.

Section A: Put

• It’s time for lunch now. Put away your books.

• It’s cold outside. Make sure you put on a coat.

• Don’t put off your homework until tomorrow.

Section A: Get

• I usually get up late on Sundays.

• Get in her quickly. Look out the window at these two birds.

• I’ll get out of the car at the station.

Section A: Other phrasal verbs

• Make sure you switch off the lights before you leave.

  • I’m going to switch on the heater, there’s a chill in the room.

• Our favourite show is about to start. Turn on the TV.

  • Remember to turn off the stove before you leave the kitchen.

• I think he made up that story. It didn’t sound true at all.

• We should stop at the next gas station. We are about to run out of gas.

• To travel to most countries these days, you need to fill in online forms before leaving.

• You can find out about the ticket prices if you go to their website.

Remember

With many phrasal verbs, the object pronoun (it / them / use etc) goes between the verb and the second word.

• Do your homework today. Don’t put it off until tomorrow. (NOT put off it)

• There’s a problem with my computer. I can’t switch it on. (NOT switch on it)
