Words & Phrases

  • Are you at work today? (You’re asking if the person is physically at their workplace today)

    • Are you working today? (You’re asking if the person is scheduled to work or doing work today)

  • I had to check invoices for two thousand members.

    • I did the checking myself because we were short one person.

  • We had events on the second and sixth. It rained on both days. (NOT on the second day and sixth day)

  • I saw an old man crouching on the staircase.

    • What was he doing?

    • Did someone help him?

    • What happened?

  • My friends came to my house on the weekend.

    • What did you all do at your house?

    • How many people came?

    • Was it a potluck party or did you make all the food?

    • What did you cook?

    • How much wine did you all drink? (= How many bottles of wine …)

  • I went to Grandberry Park on May 1.

    • Did you buy anything?

    • Was there any special events?

    • Did they have any Hawaiian food and drinks?
