Words & Phrases

  • Did you get a perm or is your hair naturally wavy?

  • Fray (verb) = To become worn or thin at the edges, causing the threads to pull apart and hang loose.

    • My straw hat is starting to fray around the edges.

    • The bottom of my jeans began to fray because they were too long and rubbed on the ground.

    • I didn’t tie the end of the rope, so it frayed very quickly.

  • I went crazy at the bookstore buying picture books for my grandkids.

  • Skewer (noun / verb)

    • (Noun) A long, thin piece of metal or wood used to hold pieces of food together while cooking.

      • I put the prawns on skewers before cooking them in the fish grill.

    • (Verb) To push a long, thin object through something.

      • Can you skewer the prawns for me while I prepare the salad?
