Words & Phrases

  • A young girl suddenly appeared in front of me, and I tried to avoid her, but I fell off my bicycle.

    • What should I have done in that situation?

  • We had tickets for the morning show, but we decided to buy more for other shows that day.

  • When I worked at the bank, the Kabuki theatre often asked us to help sell their leftover tickets.

  • It’s much easier to see the Expo through social media rather than going there.

  • During the rainy season, we sometimes need to watch out for floods.

Appropriate Language

  • “Do you have any pets?”

    • most natural and common, widely used in conversations

  • “Do you own any pets?”

    • slightly more formal or technical, emphasizes legal ownership

  • “Do you keep any pets?”

    • more formal or old-fashioned, often used when talking about animals kept for a purpose (e.g. “Do you keep chickens?”)
