    • Type: Open question

    • Focus: Asking for a specific number.

    • Meaning: The speaker wants to know the exact number of visits.

    • A: “Oh really? You’ve been to Osaka? How many times?”
B: “At least a dozen times.”

  • Have you been to Osaka many times?

    • Type: Yes/No question

    • Focus: Asking about frequency, not a specific number.

    • Meaning: The speaker thinks the person may have gone many times and wants confirmation.

    • A: “You seem to know Osaka well. Have you been there many times?”
B: “Yes, I come sometimes to visit family who live here.”

  • You’ve been to Osaka many times, haven’t you?

    • Type: Tag question

    • Focus: Confirming something the speaker already believes.

    • Meaning: The speaker expects the answer to be yes.

    • A: “You know the area well—You’ve been to Osaka many times, haven’t you?”
B: “Yes, you’re right. I love the food, so I visit often.”
