Words & Phrases

  • She was raised by her mother only, her father passed away when she was young.

    • We sometimes went to Canada to help take care of our grandkids and travel.

  • The inside of their new house is unfinished. The contractors need a couple more weeks to finish everything.

  • Saitama is north of Tokyo. (= separate location)

    • Itabashi is in the north of Tokyo. (= inside the boundary)

  • Sneaky (adjective) = Acting or done in a secret, dishonest, or underhanded way to avoid being noticed.

    • My cat is very sneaky; she waits until I leave the kitchen and then jumps on the counter to lick the butter.

    • He took a sneaky look at his phone under the desk while the teacher was looking at the whiteboard.

  • I didn’t bother going to the opera, because I’m not much of a cultured person.

Appropriate Language

  • When something happens on time, it happens at the exact planned, arranged, or scheduled time. It is neither late nor early.

  • When you do something in time, you do it with enough time to spare before a deadline or a negative consequence occurs. You are early enough to avoid a problem.
