Words & Phrases

  • Succulents = Plants that store water in their thick, fleshy parts (like leaves or stems).

    • Cacti = A type of succulent that usually has areoles (small, round bumps that spines, flowers, or branches grow from).

  • My tai-chi teacher has won awards.

    • I tried it before but my movements were clunky, so I gave up.

    • During the pandemic the class was popular, many many people attended.

  • The gym’s programs are popular, so you need to reserve your spot early. If not you’ll be on the waiting list.

    • How many classes at the gym do you do?

    • Do you know how many classes the gym offers?

  • Altitude sickness (noun); a condition caused by ascending to high elevations too quickly, where there is less oxygen, leading to symptoms like headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue.

    • She started feeling altitude sickness at 3,000 metres above sea level.

    • To avoid altitude sickness, it’s best to ascend slowly and stay hydrated.

    • He had to turn back from the hike due to severe altitude sickness.

  • There was a warning system drill, and the siren went off for 30 minutes.

  • Do you do any (sit-ups / push-ups / pull-ups / squats etc) at home?

    • When should you inhale and exhale when you exercise?

  • I had my eyesight tested. (This means an eye doctor tested your eyes)
