This focuses on getting infected
Commonly used with “just / recently / the other day”
I have a cold that I think I got from my husband.
This focuses on the current condition, describing how you are experiencing now.
Simple way to remember: You catch a cold, then you have a cold
The temperature can depend on if (there is wind / it is windy) or not.
We have heated floors in the living and dining rooms.
I have heated blankets on my bed.
Heating is usually used for systems or processes like heating system, central heating, floor heating
One of my eyes were really red. I used eye drops and it cleared up in a couple of days.
Appropriate Language
Wipe and Swipe
Wipe: Cleaning or removing something
I wiped the table after dinner.
Wipe your hands on a towel.
I wiped the screen because it was dirty.
Swipe: Quick, light, or smooth motion, often sideways. Commonly used with apps, tablets, cards
Swipe left on the screen.
I swiped my card.
Someone swiped my umbrella. (“Swipe” informally also means “to steal”)
Talking about TV
People almost never say TV drama. It sounds like a category label. In conversation, drama already implies TV unless the context is theatre. Drama is a television programme that tells a serious or emotional story (Common types: Crime drama, medical drama, legal drama, historical drama, teen drama etc)
I’ve been watching this Korean drama on Netflix.
I started a new drama last night.
People also use series (or show) a lot to talk about shows in general (without mentioning the type)
I’m really into this series at the moment.
I finished the whole series in one weekend.
