Words & Phrases
What did you do in the a.m.? (very casual)
This morning I did some errands and laundry.
My friend was waving so hard that I almost burst out laughing.
I used to get nervous when my friends came to watch me do hula.
It was such a busy day that I crashed at 9pm. (“crashed” = meaning “fell asleep quickly”)
We went to the final event to cheer on our son in law. (cheer + pronoun + on = cheer him on, NOT cheer on him)
The skin clinic has cosmetic treatments.
Countable & Uncountable Nouns
“Pizza is countable when you mean a whole pizza, and uncountable when you mean it as food in general.”
Here are some common examples that fit this patter: chicken, fish, coffee, beer, wine, chocolate.
Seaweed is normally uncountable when you mean it as food or in general
We eat a lot of seaweed in Japan.
There’s seaweed in this soup.
Seaweed is very healthy.
In everyday food contexts, we normally use a unit word instead.
a sheet of seaweed
a piece of seaweed
a strip of seaweed
a pack of seaweed
