Lesson Notes February 17, 2026 (Elementary)
Words & Phrases
Kids are given red envelopes during Chinese New Year.
The envelops bring good luck and protection from bad luck for the coming year.
Most events are inside, not outside. (We cannot say “almost events”, we either say “most” or “almost all”)
We went to an oden izakaya, and each of us brought a bottle of wine. Each of us drank a bottle of wine.
We met for the first time since our children were 10 or 11 years old.
Short Dialogues
A: What types of fruit do you like?
B: I really like apples.
A: Me too. And what types of fruit do you dislike? (Different preference: “Not me, I prefer oranges”)
B: I don’t like bananas.
A: Me neither (Negative agreement)
Countable & Uncountable Nouns
I really like pears. (When talking about things in general, we usually use the plural form of countable nouns.)
I don’t like clams. (Most shellfish are countable and take “-s.”)
I love eating shrimp. (Here “shrimp” is a plural noun; one shrimp, two shrimp)
Most fish names are plural, but we don’t add “-s”
I love pomegranates. (ˈpɒm.ɪˌɡræn.ɪts / POM-i-gran-its)
There are no vegetables I dislike.
I like all vegetables.
