Words & Phrases

  • Now I got it. I need to close all the curtains.

  • Seep (verb) = to flow or leak slowly through something like a small opening or porous material

    • Water started to seep under the door during the storm.

    • The smell of coffee seeped through the whole house.

    • Light was seeping through the curtains.

  • Do you remember what time we chatted in the yard the other day?

    • You were dressed up and wearing make-up.

    • Made-up (adj) wearing cosmetics

    • She came to the party all made up and looking great.

  • The number of good Japanese pianists is growing. (= increasing in number)

    • The lemon tree has several lemons growing on it.” (= developing)

  • Up and coming (adjective) = becoming successful and getting noticed, usually in the early stages of a rising career (Synonyms: emerging, rising, promising)

    • She is an up and coming singer who is starting to get a lot of attention.

    • They moved to an up and coming neighbourhood that is changing quickly.

    • He is an up and coming chef with some really creative ideas.

  • The workmen came and installed a new bath in the bathroom.

    • They are also renovating the small changing area.

    • This sounds like a big renovation!

  • Vanity (noun) = a small bathroom cabinet or counter with a sink, used for washing and storing toiletries

    • The new flat has a big vanity with lots of storage.

    • I keep my skincare products in the vanity.

    • They need to wallpaper around the vanity. (‘Wallpaper’ can be a noun or verb)
