Words & Phrases

  • I’ve been going to that hair salon for more than 20 years.

  • I refuse to buy collared white shirts. (= white dress shirts)

    • Bright coloured shirts suit me very well.

  • Do you have any clothes that you have never worn?

    • I’ve got a couple of shopping failures.

    • There are some impulse buys in my closet.

  • The recent trend is to only get wedding photos taken, rather than having a party or ceremony.

Appropriate Language

  • "Clear" means transparent / see-through (like clean water, glass, or plastic) or easy to see / unclouded. So we can’t use it with colours, unless it’s see-through!

    • I don’t like bright green shirts. (e.g. neon green, electric green, highlighter green)

    • I don’t like light green shirts. (e.g. mint green, safe, seafood, pastel green)

    • I don’t like vivid green shirts. (e.g. lush tropical leaf, emerald, fresh spring grass)

    • I don’t like lime green shirts. (e.g. citrus peel colour)
