Words & Phrases

  • The event started just around (sundown / sunset).

    • Sunset is more precise and often used in writing, schedules, or science.

    • Sundown is casual and often used in conversation.

  • Yamayuri has a new booking system starting next month.

  • One of the dancers shoes fell off, but she continued dancing with only one shoe.

  • The male dancers danced gracefully.

    • The female athletes performed very well.

Appropriate Language

  • Keep someone on their toes (idiom) = to make someone stay alert, prepared, and attentive, often by presenting challenges or unpredictability

    • I sometimes take a ballet class at the gym to keep me on my toes.

    • The coach’s unexpected drills kept the players on their toes during practice.

    • Her clever questions kept the interviewee on his toes throughout the conversation.
