Lesson Notes August 26, 2025 (Elementary)

Words & Phrases

  • I was helping my mom with errands today. I took her for a haircut and then we went to the supermarket.

    • Errands (noun, plural) = short trips taken to complete everyday tasks, usually involving collecting or delivering things (Synonyms: tasks, chores, assignments)

      • I spent the morning running errands around town.

      • She asked her son to do a few errands before dinner.

  • I squished a bunch of scale insects this morning.

    • I use an (environmentally friendly / organic) spray to get rid of them.

  • My son found a cockroach on the toothbrush stand.

    • The balcony screen needs to be replaced, it’s a little damaged.

    • Sophie clawed at the window screen.

  • He recovered from drinking too much, and I was relieved. (‘Relieved’ shows your feeling of comfort or happiness that he is okay, NOT ‘released’.)

    • He could have been (paralyzed / killed).

    • I passed out on the station platform. (In this case, we don’t use ‘sleep’)

  • After the event, we had a celebration party at the beach house.

  • The dress was pink and orange with a tropical plant print.

  • I wasn’t feeling well, my blood pressure was slow and I felt dizzy, so I slept 11 hours.

    • A couple of the customers fell down with heatstroke.
