Words & Phrases
Some restaurants are closed (for / because of) Obon.
Some people go back to their hometowns for the holiday.
The theatre seats 300. (= the theatre has seats for 300 people)
I (booked / bought) early tickets for the movie. (The word reservation is normally used for things like hotels, restaurants, or sometimes flights.)
The current line of succession in the Japanese royal family is facing a crisis.
‘Line of succession’ means the order of people who can become the next king, queen, or emperor. ‘Facing a crisis’ means there is a serious problem or challenge.
Festival (noun) = a special event or celebration, often with music, food, or cultural activities
The city holds a music festival every summer that attracts thousands of visitors.
During the harvest festival, people gather to share food and enjoy traditional dances.
Sports day (noun) = a day, usually at a school or community, dedicated to athletic competitions and games
Our school’s sports day is held every spring, and everyone participates in races.
Parents came to watch the students compete on sports day.

Grammar
Go and Come
Go; We use go when the movement is away from the place where you are now.
I go to school every day.
She goes to the supermarket after work.
Come; We use come when the movement is toward the place where the speaker or listener is.
Can you come to my house tomorrow?
He came to the party last night.
Tip for students: Think about where you are speaking from. If the person is moving toward you, use come. If they are moving away from you, use go.
Audience
Singular: “audience”; We usually treat it as one group, even if it has many people. We often use a singular verb.
The audience is excited. (Here, we think of the audience as one group.)
Plural: “audiences”; We use this when talking about more than one group of people at different times or places.
The play has attracted audiences from all over the country. (Many separate groups of people.)
Tip for students: If you’re talking about one concert, lecture, or movie showing, use audience. If you’re talking about several events or performances, use audiences.
Appropriate Language
What kind of food does this restaurant serve?
We cannot say ‘What kind of food is this restaurant?’ because a restaurant is not food. We need a verb like serve, offer, or have to show the action the restaurant does with the food.
What kind of food does this restaurant serve?
What kind of food do they have at this restaurant?
What kind of food is served in this restaurant?
The highway will be crowded this week for Obon.
The word crowd is a noun or a verb, but here we need an adjective to describe the highway. The adjective form is crowded, which means full of people or vehicles.
The train was crowded this morning.
The beach will be crowded on Sunday.
