Words & Phrases

  • I don’t feel particularly ill, but I have a stuffy nose and it’s runny.

  • I used to get strep throat every summer. ("Strep" is short for Streptococcus)

  • Was the wine party at someone’s house or a restaurant?

    • The sommelier grows grapes in Nagano city. (“Grow up” means to get older or more mature)

    • He started his vineyard and winery from nothing.

  • Carl (men’s name) kɑːrl/ KARL (think “Carlsberg” but remove “-sberg”

  • Prawns (noun) prɔːnz/ PRAWNZ

    • In many Commonwealth countries, like Canada, the UK etc, larger varieties are almost always called prawns, whereas in North America, the term "shrimp" is more dominant regardless of size.
