Concrete Images

This series was my initial exploration of urban surfaces. In areas of Tokyo, and the neighbouring cities, houses rest atop of concrete bases, which often function as garage spaces. In these areas what you end up seeing as you walk are a variety of concrete & stone surfaces, which have been weathered over the years.

Over time as I have explored the urban environment near where I work I have begun to see abstract landscapes, which look like overhead images from satellites or drones, in various concrete surfaces. These concrete surfaces first showed me that we do not simply find art, rather we can create it when we feel a sense of familiarity, and it’s within our perception.
