Words & Phrases
The small snack pub is at the back of the alley, so it’s a little hard to find.
His brother is a famous guitarist too. (NOT the famous)
I sat in the front, directly in front of him.
I went 90 minutes early and I was third in line.
He plays like nobody else. (= he has incredible talent)
The whisky was peaty.
It had a peaty smell.
I went to Hokkaido on a tour last weekend. (Use “tour” for guided, scheduled trips with a group. Use “trip” for general travel.)
I ate a very plump scallop, it was so delicious.
Plump (adj); Full, rounded, and slightly fat in a pleasing or healthy way. Often used for food to suggest juiciness and freshness.
Sometimes my left eye gets blurry. I can’t see clearly or read small text.
My doctor suggested cataract surgery.
Have you considered surgery for cataracts?
I haven’t had that surgery yet, but I am thinking about it. I can’t see (well / clearly), especially at night.
Appropriate Language
In natural English, “tour” usually refers to:
A guided trip with a set itinerary (e.g. a bus tour, a sightseeing tour, walking tour, day tour, wine tour etc)
A performance or speaking trip (e.g. a band tour, lecture tour, concert tour, press tour)
