Words & Phrases

  • I’m ok, but it’s a little dreary outside.

  • The suspect was arrested after a stabbing near Shinjuku.

    • The victim was taken to hospital.

  • We had a reservation this morning, so I came to the salon.

    • I was going to close the salon, but suddenly I got a booking.

  • This morning, I cleaned my house. (NOT the room)

    • I cleaned my room yesterday. (= the speaker’s bedroom).

Weekends

  • I often go driving. (NOT go drive)

    • Do you often have a destination in mind?

  • I often go to yoga school.

    • I often go to the gym

    • How often do you go to (the gym / yoga school)?

  • What is something that you routinely do, but don’t do on the weekends?

    • I often cook during the week, but on the weekend I never cook.

    • I never read a book on weekends.

    • I never study wine on weekends.

    • I never visit museums on weekends.

Three-Sentence Weekend Stories

  • “Weeding tarp”; a sheet or cover placed on the ground to prevent weeds from growing while allowing water and air to reach the soil.

  • “Osteopath”; a healthcare professional who treats muscle and joint problems using physical therapy, and stretching.

Homework

  • Read “Storytelling Activity 01”, and write what you did over the weekend in three sentences. Use the examples as a guide.
