Appropriate Language
SORRY
We use “sorry” when we:
1. Did something wrong, make a mistake or hurt someone.
“Sorry I’m late.”
“Where are my notes? Sorry, one moment.”
“Sorry I broke your pen.”
2. Feel bad or sad for someone.
“I’m sorry to hear you’re sick.”
EXCUSE ME
We use “excuse me” when we:
1. Want someone’s attention.
“Excuse me, where is the toilet?”
2. Want someone to move.
“Excuse me, can I get past?”
3. Make a small noise (cough, sneeze, burp).
(sneeze) “Excuse me.”
