Words & Phrases

  • Off one’s game (idiom); not performing as well as usual, often because of tiredness, distraction, or lack of focus.

    • He was really off his game during the match today.

    • I think I’m off my game because I didn’t sleep well last night.

    • When she’s off her game, her work quality drops.

  • There was an earthquake, but I only felt one small jolt. (= one sudden shake)

  • Whenever I travel, I usually get insurance.

    • Adjective + insurance; (health / car / home / travel / life / pet / accident) + insurance

    • Common verbs + insurance (get / buy / have / take out / need) + insurance

    • Insurance + Noun; insurance + (policy / company / premium / claim / coverage)

  • I joined a Japanese tour group during my trip.

  • I bought two packages of rock salt to bring back home.

  • I got to see a beautiful cascade while visiting the area.

    • Cascade (noun); A small waterfall or series of waterfalls, often in steps.

  • The city is surrounded by a wall, you can walk on top of the wall.

  • The flight was a little over 12 hours.

  • We experienced terrible rain while on the bus, but when we arrived the weather got better.

  • There were only 15 people in the tour. It was a nice number.

    • There were three groups of two friends.

    • There were four couples.
