Words & Phrases

  • There is a low pressure system passing through the Kanto area.

  • About a week ago, there was a heatwave across most of eastern Europe.

    • Roughly a week ago, a heatwave affected most of eastern Europe.

  • Heatwave (noun); a prolonged period of excessively hot weather, often much hotter than usual for a region and time of year (Synonyms: hot spell, extreme heat, scorching weather)

    • The city issued warnings during last summer’s heatwave.

    • A heatwave swept through Europe, breaking temperature records.

    • Plants withered during the heatwave due to the lack of rain.

  • The school prohibits students from going outside during extreme weather conditions.

  • This extreme weather is only going to get worse over the next couple of decades.

  • Every window in my house has a screen, but sometimes I can’t feel the wind.

  • I saw a news report about someone driving the wrong way on the highway.
