Lesson Notes December 2, 2025 (TUESDAY ZOOM)

Words & Phrases

  • I needed to update my Line app.

    • Apps should be regularly updated.

  • I get over 100 junk emails a day.

    • I hate getting junk mail in my mailbox.

  • There were workmen in my house today, so I couldn’t feel at ease.

  • The tiles in my bathroom were cracked, chipped and broken.

    • Seep (verb) = to flow or leak slowly through something like water moving through a small gap

    • Water started to seep under the door after the heavy rain.

    • A bit of oil seeped out of the container.

    • Light seeped through the curtains early in the morning.

  • She choreographed all the dances.

    • This was her forty-first show. (= She’s done this show forty-one times)

  • I watched a concert by (older / veteran / senior) singers. They sang their old hits.

    • Someone of them couldn’t sing that well, their voices have gotten old.

    • Some of their voices sounds rough or hoarse.

  • When she was younger she could sing high notes very well. Now she sings lower. (We say high notes and low notes, not “high tone” or “low tone”.)

    • She used to have a higher voice, but now it’s lower.

  • I can’t remember the name of the illness she had, but she’s had to take time to recover. She’s still not one hundred per cent well.

  • I felt some of the scenes in the movie were unnecessary. They made the movie too long.

    • If I had to give it a rating, I’d give it three point five out of five.

    • I went to see the movie based on everyone’s recommendations, but I didn’t feel the same way they did.

  • I cut back on the amount of TV I watch because my eyes have been feeling tired.
