Words & Phrases
Ultimatum (noun) ˌʌltɪˈmeɪtəm / ul-ti-MAY-tum = A final demand or statement of terms, often with a threat of consequences if not accepted. (Synonyms: final demand, last offer, take-it-or-leave-it condition)
My parents gave me an ultimatum to clean my room or lose my video games.
The country delivered an ultimatum to its rival before declaring war.
Before the class trip the teacher issues an ultimatum; behave or the trip is cancelled.
It’s too hot and too crowded to go to the pool.
My family and I went to the Hakone Craft-house to make blown glass.
I enjoyed creating crafts. I crafted a blown glass bead pendant.
We stayed at a lovely inn in Karuizawa. (‘Pension’ is a French word a small, often family-run guesthouse)
Inn (noun) = A small hotel or lodging place, often found in the countryside or a small town, sometimes with a restaurant or pub.
The inn was famous for its homemade pies.
The diner down the street is known for its delicious burgers.
Diner (noun) = A small, informal restaurant that usually serves simple meals and is often open late or 24 hours. (Synonyms: café, eatery, grill)
I stayed in Oklahoma for two months, because I wanted to spend time with my grandchildren.

How about your daughter-in-law? (= this also asks if your daughter-in-law has ever visited Japan)

Appropriate Language
Hotel – Usually a larger building with many rooms, often in cities or tourist areas, with services like restaurants, room service, and a front desk open 24 hours.
Motel – Short for “motor hotel”. Usually by a road or highway, with rooms you can access directly from the outside, and parking right in front. Often cheaper and simpler than hotels.
Inn – Usually smaller and more personal. Often older or more traditional buildings. Can be in the countryside or small towns. May have a cosy, home-like feel and sometimes include meals.
