Words & Phrases

  • Were you performing last week? (‘Perform’ is more common, than saying ‘be on stage’)

    • Yes, I performed twice these past two weeks.

  • I forgot how to put a diaper on a baby.

    • “I forgot how to change a diaper.”

    • “It’s been so long, I forgot how to diaper a baby.”

  • I think these days most new parents use disposable diapers not cloth ones.

    • Very few new parents use reusable diapers these days.

    • When I had my first baby, my landlady asked me where I laundered the diapers.

  • Across most of Canada, there are water restrictions and fire restrictions.

    • Water restrictions; limits on watering gardens, filling pools, or washing cars during dry periods.

    • Fire restrictions; such as bans on campfires, fireworks, or outdoor burning due to high fire risk.

  • In Tokyo this summer, the basic water fee has been waived, so it’s lowered our water bills.
